About Us
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded in 1908 in Washington, District of Columbia. For 113 years our membership continues to serve globally as leaders and change agents to improve quality of life throughout the globe in service to all mankind. The Lambda Chi Omega Chapter of Hawaii's membership is comprised of college educated women with demonstrated leadership in professions which include medicine, education, law, business and finance as well as public service at federal, state and local levels.
Lambda Chi Omega Chapter was chartered on March 24, 1978 in Honolulu County. For over 40 years our chapter has served throughout the state and the Pacific islands, bringing extensive training, experience and research to benefit local communities. It is supported by the Far Western Region. As with the birth of our national organization, Lambda Chi Omega is known as Alpha Kappa Alpha’s “First Chapter of the Pacific.” Just like our Founders’, the humbled beginnings began in Hawaii as an interest group and taking on the Hawaiian language AKAMAI – meaning “smart” women. We honor our charter members and our past presidents for their vision, commitment and leadership.
Today, we are committed to continue the legacy of those who came before us through sisterhood, scholarship and service. Hence, we are "Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service" to meet the needs of communities. The elected officers of the Lambda Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated form the executive board. The current chapter officers and appointed committee chairmen are below.
